AFC CL: Aouar strikes early and perfectly starts his season (video)
Houssem Aouar could not have dreamed of a better start to the season. Starting for the first official match of Al-Ittihad, the Algerian midfielder made his mark by scoring his team's third goal against Al Jazira this Tuesday in Abu Dhabi. This goal contributed to his team's convincing victory, winning 4-1 in the preliminary round of the Asian Champions League.
For his first official outing of the season, the new German coach Jens Wissing decided to trust Aouar in midfield. The Algerian international was lined up from the start, alongside the new Senegalese recruit Dion Lopy.
Aouar did not take long to justify his coach's trust. While his club was already leading 2-0, the former AS Roma player joined the celebration by scoring the third goal in the 54th minute. On a well-constructed attack, left-back Fares Abdi delivered a cross that was deflected by Serbian defender Jan-Carlo Simic. The ball then arrived at Aouar's feet, perfectly positioned in front of the goal, who simply had to finish against the opposing goalkeeper.
With this 4-1 victory, Al-Ittihad also marks a convincing start to this new season and continues its goal of qualifying for the championship phase of the Asian Champions League. As for Aouar, the Fennec is determined to establish himself once again this year in his new coach's plans as an essential offensive asset for the Saudi team.
