Spain: Luca Zidane succeeds in his debut with Leganés.
In his first appearance with Leganés, Luca Zidane kept a clean sheet against Tenerife, before losing in the penalty shootout. However, his starting position remains to be earned.
Having arrived at Leganés only a few days ago from Granada, Luca Zidane has already made his debut in his new colors. Coming on during the match against CD Tenerife in a friendly, the Algerian international goalkeeper was immediately thrown into the deep end.
The match ended in a goalless draw (0-0), before Leganés lost in the penalty shootout. For his first appearance, the 28-year-old keeper managed to keep his goal intact. A reassuring start that also allowed him to get to know his new teammates in match conditions.
Signed during this summer transfer window, Zidane does not arrive with the guarantee of occupying the number one position. The 2026 World Cup participant will have to contend with the competition from Juan Soriano and take advantage of the preparation matches to convince coach Rubén Albés.
Already criticized in Algeria after some performances with the Greens, Luca Zidane has a lot at stake this season. A potential place on the bench at Leganés could undermine his status in the national team, especially with the upcoming arrival of a new coach. To maintain the Algerian goal, he will need to play regularly and show real consistency.
